42nd Annual
International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition
April 6-8, 2006

From April 6-8, 2006, three teams from San José State’s College of Business were among 32 teams competing in the 42nd Annual International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition, held at the Bahia Hotel in San Diego. The contest was hosted by the University of San Diego, School of Business Administration.

Three teams that competed (click on each team for more information) were:

• Eureka (MBA): Stella Cao, Stanley Chan, Danny Kim, Nhon Quach, Michael Reeves, Philippe Zervogiannis
• Vintage (MBA): Michael Holt, Varinder Kumar, Jayamani Manickam, Madhan Ramalingam, Awinash Sinha
• Spartan Slippers International (undergraduate): Karin Karlsson, Michael Nguyen, Jonathan Wang, Sunny Wong, Michael Zezzo

Prof. Joel West of the Department of Organization & Management served as advisor to all three teams – the most teams for any faculty advisor at this year’s competition. In between coaching the teams, he served as taxi driver, delivery boy and tour guide.

In addition to Prof. West and the 16 students, San José State was also represented by two former SJSU team advisors, Dr. Abdel El-Shaeib and Dr. Stephen Achtenhagen (shown on the right). These retired SJSU faculty members were in San Diego to serve as judges for the ICBSC.
