Welcome from the Interim Dean

Thank you for your visit here! The Donald and Sally Lucas Graduate School of Business and the College of Business are transforming from good to great. I invite you to learn about and participate in the excitement that defines us.

With more than 5300 undergraduate and 650 graduate students, the CoB is among the largest in the nation. Our graduates--diverse in age, cultural background, business experience, and goals--fuel the Silicon Valley. They work as employees of the many large and world-famous corporations in the area and as founding members of the as-yet-unknown start-ups that are formed here. Equally important, our graduates provide the services that finance, supply, and support this amazing economy.

Our remarkable faculty have been educated at the best universities in the world. They are committed to preparing students who will contribute substantially to the business community and who will prosper in our fast-paced environment. With access to the most innovative business people, organizations, and ideas, faculty are also interested in research that contributes to an understanding of the best
global business practices.

To provide adequately for students, we seek the help of our partners--members of our Advisory Board, alumni, and business friends. We invite them into our classrooms, urge them to provide internships and team projects, and ask them to trust us with their money. The leadership gift of $10 million from Donald and Sally Lucas in 2005 has enabled us to establish a Graduate School of Business in their name. It has stimulated faculty research initiatives and has enabled us to invite visiting scholars from abroad and infuse a global focus in our graduate curriculum. We have also established the Donald and Sally Lucas Endowed Professorship of Global Leadership.

At the undergraduate level, our partners have provided funds and opportunities for students to practice their leadership skills. The Gary J. Sbona Honors Program mentors some of our most talented students as they complete business projects. Other corporate gifts enable student club members to provide College-wide programs.

I hope you will become engaged with us. Study with us! Teach with us! Hire our graduates! Invest in our very, very promising future!
