GUIDELINE FOR TEAM CASE ANALYSIS

Team case analysis provides an opportunity for team-based problem solving.  Each team member is expected to participate in the case analysis and team report, delivery of the presentation, and fielding of questions from the class.

Presentation

Please prepare PowerPoint slides.  Maximum duration for the case presentation is 20 minutes.  The team is responsible for leading a 10-15 minute class discussion following the case presentation.

Presentation Components

1)  Introduction

        Briefly describe situation and key issues.  Broadly relate the issue to themes covered in class.

2)  Issue/Problem Diagnosis

Apply concepts and theories from relevant chapters which best explain the issue or problem.

3)  Recommendation

        Select a recommendation for addressing the issue.  Evaluate your recommendation by considering the possible ripple effects of its implementation.  Does your recommendation differ from how the company actually resolved the issue, if known?

4)  ‘In the Moment’

Provide an update on the company regarding the issue under study, and/or provide analogies with other companies faced with similar issues.

5)  Concluding Remarks

        Summarize key conclusions.

Team Report

The team report comprises two parts:

1) a 3-5 page written report that includes, (a) a summary of the case that covers the presentation components, with in-text citations; (b) answers to the end-of-case review questions; and (c) a list of references.

2) a hard copy of the presentation slides.

The team report (double-spaced, 12 cpi, 1 inch margins, paginated) should be submitted under one report cover.  The team report is due at the start of the presentation.  An emailed or faxed copy of the case summary is not acceptable.

Peer Evaluation Form

Team members will individually submit a peer evaluation form, which can be downloaded from the instructor’s website.   The peer evaluation form is due at the start of the presentation.

Grading Criteria

One grade will be given to the presentation team.  Individual grades may be partially determined by peer evaluation.  Each team member must have a speaking role in the presentation.  The following criteria will be used to assess the team grade:

1)      diagnosis of key issues with appropriate concepts or theories;

2)      suitable recommendations to address the situation;

3)      clarity and seamlessness of presentation;

4)      professionalism and time management;

5)      adeptness at fielding questions from audience.
