General advising information
All undergraduate students, as mandated by the Academic Senate, are required to be advised by their major department prior to their THIRD semester of enrollment at SJSU. Registration will be blocked for those who do not attend advisement sessions presented by faculty in each department. Look for postings about dates and locations, listen for announcements in class, check with your department, or ask an advisor in BSAC for more information.
It is highly recommended that you see an advisor in BSAC prior to your first semester at SJSU to ensure that you are aware of all degree requirements.
Maintain all documents received from the university to include admissions, financial aid, transcripts from other institutions, petitions you may have submitted, academic advising handouts throughout your academic endeavors at SJSU. Although advisors generally have access to most records, it is advisable to maintain your own until you graduate.
Be sure to access your "To do" list through MySJSU prior to registration each semester to ensure no registration "holds" have been placed on your record. Be sure to take the necessary action when things are listed. See an advisor in BSAC if you have any questions.
