Exercise One:  Create a New Presentation

·        Select the Home tab.

·        Insert 3 slides.

·        Click on the pull-down arrow next to the Layout icon. 

·        The first slide has a Title layout. Leave that unchanged.

·        Format the second slide as a Title and Content layout.

·        Format the third slide as a Two Content layout.

·        Format the fourth slide as a Comparison layout.

·        Now change slides three and four back to a Title and Content layout.

Presentation Views

Icons on the View tab change the way the presentation is displayed.

Normal View is the default. Use normal view to modify individual slides, and to add notes to slides.

Slide Sorter shows all the slides, laid out side by side. Use this view to rearrange the sequence of the slides, to set timings for slide transitions, and to quickly make changes to the group of slides.

Slide Show View starts the actual presentation.

Select Slide Master. This is where to make changes to the generic format of all slides, the master slide, and to the different slide layout options. The most common use of the slide master is to add text or graphics that will appear in every slide.

Click on Close Master View

Add Slide Numbers

From the Insert tab, click on the Slide Numbers icon. Add numbers to the slides.

Add Content to the Slides

Click on each slide and add text.

·        The Title Slide should be called PowerPoint. Enter your name as the subtitle.

·        Slide Two should be called Profitability Factors. Add four bullet points: Purchasers, Sales Volume, Cost, and Price. 

·        Slide Three should be called Art. Add one bullet point: Working with Shapes.

Quick Styles

Select the Title Slide. Click on the Title textbox.

On the Home tab, click on the Quick Style icon.

Mouse over the options.  

The slide’s appearance changes to match each option.

Click on one of the options in the fourth row to select it.

Choose another option for the subtitle text box.

Note: you can right-click on a slide and format the background. The background could be a color, a texture, a gradient, or even a picture.

Select Slide Two

Highlight the text with your mouse.

Select the Format tab.

Apply a quick style from the third row.

Change the shape Outline Color.

Add a 3D Rotation shape effect.

Select the Home tab:

·        Mouse over the text.

·        In the Paragraph section, click the icon for Convert to Smart Art.

·        Mouse over the options.

·        Select convert to Pyramid.

·        A box opens to edit the text. Close it.

Click on the Smart Art pyramid.

Select the Smart Tools Design tab:

·        Mouse over Smart Art Styles.

·        Mouse over Layouts

·        Click on the Layouts down-arrow and choose More Layouts. Scroll to the top of the dialog box.

·        Select the Continuous Picture shape in the third row.

·        Click on one of the picture icons in the shape. Add a picture to each circle.

Select Slide Three

Select the Design tab:

·        Add a theme. The theme will apply to all slides.

·        Change the slide Orientation to Portrait and then change it back to Landscape.

Add Clip Art

·        Click on the fourth slide. Click in the textbox.

·        From the Insert tab, Illustrations group, select Clip Art.

·        In the dialog box, enter Apple as the search for term.

·        For “Search in” Uncheck My Collections and Office Collections. Put a check next to Web Collections and click on the plus sign. Check Microsoft Office. For “Results Should Be” select Clip Art. Click on Go.

Select the picture of an apple-man wearing clothes. Close the clip art task pane.
Add Callout Shapes

Click in the same textbox. From the Insert tab, Illustrations group, Shapes category, select the first “call out” shape. Insert the callout to the right of the apple-man.

Click on the callout to select it and then press Ctrl + D to create a duplicate. Click and drag on the duplicate callout and move it to the left of the apple-man.

Click on the left callout. You’ll see a yellow diamond at the tip of the callout. Click and drag to extend the callout handle over to the apple-man figure. Do the same thing with the second callout. 

Click on the left callout. Enter text: “An apple a day.” Resize the text box if necessary.

Click on the right callout. Enter text: “Keeps the doctor away.” Resize the text box if necessary.

Add Word Art

Click in the text box. From the Insert tab, Text group, Word Art category, choose the third icon in the fifth row.  The phrase Insert Text will appear in the center of the slide. Type “Health Tip.”

Use the arrow keys to move the Word Art to the bottom of the slide.

Add Animation Effects

Click on the Word Art. On the Animations tab, click Custom Animation. The custom animation task pane opens. Click on Add Effect. Choose Entrance and choose the third entrance effect, Checkerboard.

Click on the left callout. Choose Custom Animation.  Choose custom animation. Click on Add Effect. Choose Entrance and select Appear. Repeat this for the other callout.

In the task pane, you’ll see the three animation effects listed and numbered. You see the numbers 1, 2, and 3 in the slide. The effects will occur in that sequence. You can select animation effects in the task pane and move them up or down in the list using the reorder arrows in the task pane.

Create an Animation Sequence

Click on the first effect in the task pane and select the pull-down arrow next to it. Select Effect Options to see the effects dialog box. On the Timing tab, set a two second delay.

Click on the second effect in the task pane. Select the pull-down arrow and choose Timing. Set the Start option to After Previous and the delay to one second.

Apply these settings to the third effect. Notice the numbers all show in the slide all changed to 1. That tells you that the effects have been combined into a sequence.

Click on PLAY in the task pane to display the animation.  Close the task pane.


Media Slide

Enter Media as the title for the fourth slide.

Add an Action Button - From the Insert tab, Illustrations group, Shapes category, Basic Shapes, choose a bevel (first icon in third row.) Add the words “You Tube” to the shape.

Click on the action button to add the link. Select the shape, not the text. The text won’t work. In the Insert tab, Links group, select Action. In the dialog box for mouse-click, select the radio button next to “Hyperlink to.”  Look at the options in the pull-down box. Create a link to the URL www.youtube.com. Click OK twice.

Customize Sound Settings

Click on the Office Button, then on PowerPoint Options. Select Advanced. Look for the Save section. Increase the maximum file size for embedded sound files to 50,000. Click OK. With this setting, small sound files will be included when you save the presentation.

Add a sound clip to the Media slide. You’ll find a sample in the My Documents folder. Look for the My Music folder. Format it to play on mouse-click.

Run the Slideshow

Press F5 to run the show.

·        To move to next slide use the Tab, Enter, Page Down, N, or down-arrow keys.

·        To move to previous slide use the Backspace, Page Up, P, or up-arrow keys.

·        To jump directly to a slide type in the slide number and press enter, or right click and choose a slide from the pull down menu.

·        To move to the first or last slide press the Home or End key.

·        To temporarily show a blank screen press B or period for a black background, W or comma for a white one. Press any key to return to the slide show.

·        Right-click during the show and select Pointer Options to turn the cursor into a pen. Use the mouse to write notes and to highlight key points on the slide. You can keep, or discard, the “Ink Annotations” when you close the presentation.

To end a slide show press Escape.

Add Automatic Slide Transitions

Go to Slide Sorter View. Press Ctrl + A to select all of the slides. On the Animations tab, Transitions To This Slide group, set the timer to three seconds.

Click on the fourth (apple-man) slide. Set the timer to eight seconds. Set the timer to eight seconds on the Media slide.

Set up a Continuous Loop

On the Slide Show tab, click the Set Up Slide Show icon. Choose “Loop Continuously until ESC.” Click OK. PowerPoint will return to the first slide after the last slide appears.

Press F5 to run the show.

Press Escape when the first slide reappears.


Exercise Two: Create a Presentation 

Slides

Start with a title slide containing your name, your presentation topic, and your section number. You can choose any topic.

Include four or more content slides.

Each slide must have a title.

Each slide must have a slide number.

Each slide must have a background. The background can be a color, a color gradient, a texture, or a picture or a theme. Backgrounds don’t have to be identical in every slide.

End with a “Contents” slide with action buttons linking to two other slides. Test the file to make sure the links work. Make corrections if necessary.

Content

Slide two should include bulleted text, formatted with a 3D effect.

Slide three should include at least one example of clip art.

Slide three should include at least one example of a callout.

Include at least one example of Word Art.

Include at least one example of clip art combined with a callout. Add text to the callout.

Include a picture. Format the picture using at least one of the design tools.

Transition and Animation Effects

Add an animation effect to change the font color of the text on the title slide.

Add an animation effect to display the clip art and callout graphics in a sequence. The clip art should appear first. Hint: Use the entrance effect of Appear. Set the timing effects. (2 points)

Add an animation motion path effect moving the Word Art graphic.

Add transitions to the slides so each slide starts automatically.

Set automatic slide transitions. Each slide should display automatically after a set time. The presentation should not exceed one minute.

Add a continuous loop setting.
