Drawing upon the ideas of Edward Hall (high- vs. low-context culture) or Geert Hofstede (dimensions of culture), discuss some implications of cultural differences for the managerial function of "directing" (leadership, communications, motivation). Consider for example, Abraham Maslow's hierarchy-of-needs theory of motivation. [See Handout #3 (yellow) in Reader I]. To what extent, in your judgment, is Maslow's schema valid in all cultures? Explain.
