Course grading criteria proposed by the CSU Academic Senate

A .... Meets course objectives in superior fashion. Continued work in other courses at this level of superiority would constitute, along with other factors, a strong recommendation for graduate or professional school. Such a grade signifies that the student has performed at a level significantly superior to that ordinarily required.

B .... Meets course objectives in a manner above the average ordinarily required. Continued work in other courses at this level of performance, along with other factors, signifies that a student might function successfully in a graduate program. Such a grade signifies that a student has performed at an above average level.

C .... Meets course objectives at the average level for credit toward a degree. Continued work at this satisfactory level of acceptability would constitute a recommendation for the degree, but not for admission to graduate school. Such a grade signifies that the student has performed at the level of acceptability required of candidates for the degree.

D .... Meets course objectives at less than satisfactory or below-average level. Performance is minimal for a passing grade and is not satisfactory for graduation. An accumulation of such grades results in disqualification. Such a grade indicates performance below the level normally expected of a college student.

F .... Fails to meet course objectives. Work at this level does not meet requirements for credit toward a degree.   Note:  A course grade of F will be assigned if a student scores F on all the exams, even if the class participation component (20% of overall grade) is high
