Individual Tech Tasks
Below is a description of
possible individual technology tasks designed to provide you with opportunities
to use new and developing technologies.
You must do five of these to get full credit. The first two are mandatory. Then you may choose three of the single
credits or one double credit and one single credit.
Each task has a way of
proving it was completed. Follow those
instructions. One the last day of class,
you will use the following coversheet and
attach all of the proof to the coversheet and staple.
MANDATORY
1.
Create a blog
and make at least five entries throughout the semester related to you major and
how technology affects it. MANDATORY FOR
ALL. You may use any service (search for
various sites that allow you to do this e.g. blogger.com) Proof:Screen print
containing your profile and the content
2.
Participate in
an online study session (Elluminate)-MANDATORY FOR ALL. You must go out to
Elluminate.com and listen to the “Getting Started with Elluminate Live” (More
information to come before the first session) Proof: I can see you online.
SINGLE
CREDIT
3.
Create an RSS
feed to a technology blog and then provide comments to the author at least
three times throughout the semester (GuyKawasakis Blog is pretty funny)
Proof:Screen print containing the RSS feed in your account (e.g. yahoo)
4.
Contribute
content to a website (wikipedia, flikr, youtube) Proof:Screen print containing
your profile and the content
5.
Develop a page
in a social networking site (myspace, facebook, friendster, etc.) Proof:Screen print containing your home page
6.
Create a
Second Life profile and wander the virtual world Proof:Screen print containing
your profile and a print of some place in Second Life
7.
Find a website
that uses a mashup to provide combined information from multiple sources of
information (not housingmaps.com) Define a mash-up to support Proof:Screen print of the mashup site
8.
Setup a Wiki
on a topic of interest. (e.g. PBWiki)
Proof:Screen print containing your wiki profile and a least one entry
9.
Visit Google
labs and pick a tool. Write a summary in
your blog of the business value of that tool and how it might be used for you
major in business Proof:Screen print
containing your profile and blog entry.
10.
Signup for the
news letter at Hitwise.com (webtraffic).
Investigate the various products and how you might use them in
business. What did you find especially
interesting about these products? Proof:Write a one page summary of what you
learned.
11.
Create a
del.icio.us (web page) account and tag at least 10 articles related to using
technology in your future career related to you major. Proof:Screen print of your delicious links

12.
Attend the MIS
Experience (counts for two activities) See flyer Proof:Your attendance and sign in and out on
the roll sheet
13.
Go to the Computer History Museum (information,
hours, and location in the link) and checkout all the exhibits and then take
the Visable Storage Tour with a document. Bring the following quiz with you and you
can fill it out while you are on the tour.
