Introduction

To aid in your foundational understanding of relational databases and Microsoft Access, I am supplementing the SIMNET online learning system with materials from your Baltzan text book. The online student site for Baltzan can be found at:

On this page you will find Data File links and Technology Plug-in links. The Technology Plug-ins are pdf files that contain overviews of the MS Office application. For MS Access, we will be using Plug-ins T5-T8. (see descriptions with each lab below). The Data files are specific MS Access files to support the Making Business Decision exercises found at the end of each Technology Plug-in. These are designed to give you practice with Access after you complete technology each of Plug-ins T6-T8. It is advised that you read and then complete some of the exercises before you move on to the SIMNET Lessons and Exams.

Each Lab in this document has three sections:

Microsoft Objectives Covered: This section lists the learning objectives from Microsoft with their numbers and titles. Where we are not covering the entire objective, the change is described within ( ) after the objective title.

Learning and Preparation Materials: This section includes a listing of the Technology Plug-ins that apply to each Lab (e.g T5) and the accompanying SIMNET lesson for that topic. The Technology Plug-ins can be read online or printed as required. Also on the Student site for the text, there are Plug-in Narrated Slides. They can be accessed using the code that came with your text or can be purchased for $10 from McGraw-Hill on the site (this is totally optional and not necessary).

Assessment: In this section are the names of the practice exam and actual lab exam taken for a grade for each Lab. The actual exam must be completed by the due date on the course schedule.

PLEASE NOTE: The Lessons and Exams described below are to be done instead of the Lessons and Exams previously listed in SIMNET for Labs 2-4. Lab 2 includes a Lab 1 refresher about databases and also covers new material about working with tables.
