Campus policy in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act: "If you need course adaptations or accommodations because of a disability, or if you need special arrangements in case the building must be evacuated, please make an appointment with me as soon as possible, or see me during office hours. Presidential Directive 97-03 requires that students with disabilities requesting accommodations must register with DRC to establish a record of their disability."

Class
Procedures:
It is recommended that the required text in use be brought to class. In addition to the texts, web-based materials and handouts will be supplied. Class time will be devoted to demonstrations of problems, as well as lectures. Questions in class are encouraged both to clarify and explore concepts being presented. Written questions (on paper or by E-mail) are accepted and the answers will be either in writing or discussed in class. Students are expected to have prepared the assigned materials before coming to class. They are expected to participate and contribute to the class discussions (particularly, during assignment discussions). Office hours may also be used to raise and explore questions of interest to students. Some class time and office hours will be devoted to consultation with individuals and the teams about their activities. All written assignments to be turned in will be graded on correctness, contents, language and format.

Assignments
and Grading
Policy
Homework and Activitiess: Take home assignments and activitiess will be given and be turned in for grading. Some activities will be undertaken by teams of multiple persons. Each member of the team will be evaluated by the instructor and other team member as to his/her participation and contribution to the overall quality and completion of the activities. If a student's participation and/or contribution to an activity is deficient, the student will receive an activity grade which could be significantly less than other members of the team.

Exams: All exams will cover information in the text readings, case studies, laboratory exercises, and class discussions. Exams can contain true/false, multiple choice, word fill-in, matching, and short essays. Exam 1 & 2 (mid-term) will cover any information covered up to Exam 1 or 2. The final exam will have two parts. Part 1 will cover information covered since Exam 2, and Part 2 will be cumulative covering key elements from the entire course content.

Quizzes: I could give a quiz in class at anytime during the semester to ensure the preparation of the class. The quizzes will cover materials in the readings, cases, and activities and will be given at the beginning of the lecture or case discussion and activity periods. I highly encourage everyone to keep up with the reading to ensure we spend our time in class discussing the application of these materials. No make-up quizzes will be given.

Lab Assignments: We will be using an automated tool called MyITLab to learn MS Access. During your lab sections, you will be required to complete four database exercises. These exercises are designed to teach the fundamentals of database concepts and give you hands on experience in developing databases and extracting relevant data for business use. You have been given lab period time to work on your lab assignments. These assignments should be completed during the lab hours provided but you may also use the open lab as required to complete your work or work at home. Each lab assignment is due as stated in the schedule. A fifth lab may be administered similar to an exam.

Class Participation: Class participation is highly encouraged and will be used to determine if your final grade may be increased when it is near a grade level cutoff. Each student is expected to have read the assigned readings, attempted answering the review questions, and studied the specifically assigned chapter discussion items in preparation for class discussions. If you don’t come to class prepared, don’t expect to receive participation points. I will evaluate your preparation and participation in class when determining your level of participation.
