Arvinder Loomba, Ph.D.


Dr. Arvinder Loomba is Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management in the Department of Organization and Management within the College of Business at San José State University in San José, CA. Prior to coming to SJSU, he served on the faculty of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA. Dr. Loomba received his Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California at Los Angeles, CA, in 1993. He also holds an M.B.A. (1988) with dual majors in Operations Research and Marketing from California State University in Hayward, CA, and a B.E. (1984) in Mechanical Engineering with emphases in Statistical Quality Control and Industrial Management from Bangalore University in India.

Dr. Loomba's research interests include issues pertaining to supply chain management, manufacturing-marketing interface, organizational issues related to functional decentralization, product distribution channels, product/service quality, and after-sale service support (product warranty, extended service contracts, etc.). He has considerable research experience in the area of quality in both for- and not-for-profit firms, organization culture change, total quality management, and production planning and control aspects. Also, he has extensive teaching experience in the area of Operations Management, Service Management, Quality management, Project Management, Supply Chain Management, Managerial Statistics, and Quantitative Analysis.

Dr. Loomba is an Area Editor for the International Journal of Operations & Quantitative Management and serves on Editorial Boards of IEEE Transaction on Engineering Management and of International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals including European Journal of Operations Research, International Journal of Service Industry Management, Production and Inventory Management Journal, International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management, National Productivity Review, International Journal of Benchmarking for Quality & Technology Management, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, Total Quality Management, International Journal of Quality & Reliability Management, Journal of Management History, and Product Warranty Handbook. He has also published numerous papers in refereed academic conference proceedings and has conducted academic workshops and presentations. In addition, Dr. Loomba provides corporate training and has consulted on projects for numerous business organizations in production and service industries and government agencies including Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. (Korea), Seagate Technologies, various plants and divisions of Deere & Co. (including John Deere's Tractor Assembly Division, John Deere Engine Division, as well as its other facilities in Waterloo, Davenport, and Dubuque), Allen Hospital, Mobile Technologies Ltd., and Iowa Department of Employment Services. He currently serves as an advisor-in-residence at The Enterprise Network & Ames Technology Commercialization Center (TEN/ATCC) in San Jose, CA.

Dr. Loomba is an active member of the Council of Logistics Management (CLM), the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), the American Society of Resource Management (APICS), IEEE- Engineering Management Society (IEEE-EMS), Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC), and the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) . He currently serves as the Education Chair on the board of Council of Logistics Management - San Francisco Roundtable. In addition, he is involved in many academic committees and offers services to the local community.
