Dr. Mathur's Professional Bio
Dr. Gita Mathur is an Associate Professor in the Department of Organization and Management in the College of Business at San Jose State University. Her research interests are in the management of technological innovation and product development processes and projects. She teaches courses in operations management, product development, and management of technological innovation. She serves as the Associate Director for management curriculum in the Master of Biotechnology program in the College of Science.
Prior to joining the faculty at San Jose State University in 2002, Dr. Mathur has had several years of industry and consulting experience in product development and operations management with technology-based companies. She has held engineering and management positions in the semiconductor industry and managed a Gallium Arsenide wafer fabrication operation for Harris Corporation (1985-1991). She was a Principal with the management consulting firm Pittiglio Rabin Todd and McGrath (PRTM) where she assisted start-up and multi-division clients with the definition and improvement of their operational processes and organizational capabilities (1996-2000). She has conducted workshops and training sessions on product development at several companies and has facilitated senior management decision-making teams, product development teams, and cross-functional project teams.
Dr. Mathur holds B.Tech. and M.Tech. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (1978, 1981), a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1985), an MBA from UC Berkeley (1991), and a DBA in Technology and Operations Management from Harvard Business School (1996).
