    SVCE receives Commendation from Mayor Chuck Reed

    The Silicon Valley Center for Entrepreneurship (SVCE) received a commendation during the Tuesday, November 18, San José City Council meeting for its “commitment to promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and the international visibility and economic vitality of the City of San Jose.” Mayor Chuck Reed presented Dr. Anu Basu, director of SVCE, with the commendation which was read by Councilwoman Nancy Pyle.

    Faculty Research Award Recipients - 2008

    On May 22nd, 2008, Two College of Business faculty members were recognized for Outstanding Researcher for 2008.

    Each award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated a consistent and outstanding research record in accordance with the College of Business Mission Statement and Dean’s Strategic Plan. The recipient has evidenced this by publications primarily disseminated among business colleagues in such form as consulting reports and general interest articles.

    Master Teachers Award Recipients - Spring 08

    On April 24th, 2008, 35 College of Business faculty members were recognized as “Master Teachers,” after receiving the highest “Student Opinions of Teaching Effectiveness (SOTE)” scores, for their excellence in student instruction.

    “SOTE” scores are calculated from reviews given to teachers by their students as part of an ongoing CoB program to improve the quality of education our students receive.

    College of Business 49th Annual Banquet

    On April 18, 2007, the College of Business hosted its 49th Annual banquet, where students, faculty and alumni were recognized for their achievements and for their contributions to the College of Business.

    Diridon Family Business Leadership Scholarship Award.

    This award is given to the business student who has exhibited the highest leadership potential and effort within the College of Business

    Alpha Al Sirat, Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award.

    The Alpha Al Sirat Award is presented to the outstanding undergraduate with a major in business who is completing his/her initial baccalaureate program. “Outstanding” is defined in terms of scholastic and leadership ability as exemplified by participation in on-campus and off-campus activities. The winner is also judged likely to achieve outstanding success in his/her chosen field.

    Professor Anne Lawrence Named North American Case Research Association Fellow

    Congratulations to Anne Lawrence who was named a Fellow of the North American Case Research Association (NACRA) at its annual meeting this past week. NACRA is a professional association whose mission is to promote excellence in case research, writing, and teaching in business and other administrative disciplines. Anne has been awarded NACRA’s highest honor: it has named only 23 Fellows in its 26-year history as a professional association. In naming her as a Fellow, the organization cited her service to NACRA as president, president of the advisory council, and associate editor of the Case Research Journal; her prize-winning cases; her mentorship of others; and her awards for teaching excellence.

    Professor Stewart Karlinsky Receives 2006 ATA Outstanding Service Award

    The ATA (American Taxation Association) is a national tax organization with a membership of over 1,000 tax professors.. The organization sponsors two double blind referred journals, the “Journal of Legal Tax Research” and the “Journal of the American Taxation Association” as well as a Tax Doctoral Consortium. Dr. Karlinsky has served for the past 25 years as a Trustee, a Chair of the Tax Policy Oversight Committee and the Nomination Committee, and has assisted in obtaining noteworthy speakers for their various conferences. They awarded the honor to Dr. Karlinsky at their August 7, 2006 National Luncheon.

    CoB Professor Gets Top Service Award

    Annette Nellen, professor of accounting and tax and chair of the Academic Senate, has received the university’s Faculty Distinguished Service Award, announced President Don W. Kassing. Says Kassing, “Professor Nellen has compiled an exemplary record of outstanding service over the past decade. She has provided significant contributions to the university, its students and the community. Nellen is the embodiment of service in the fullest sense of the word.” The award is given for exemplary service in a leadership capacity to the university, community and/or profession.
