- In fall 2004, a cross-disciplinary team of students developed a
community asset mapping application for The Health Trust. This document follows the evolution of
the project and presents student outcomes.

- Just a few thoughts from our brief demo today. If anything else occurs
to me, I will be sure to email you.
- On the drop down menus: would be nice to have an option of
"Other" pertaining to the particular area we are tracking or
monitoring. We should be able to type in what it is.
- Under the comments-currently the character count is 100-but perhaps
could be increased. Also, if the interface permits, this area might be
opened up to actually see more of what I am typing -- only because it
scrolls left and I can only see a about 2 words at a time.
- Also, I found that in a very short distance, we had made many entries vs
one larger entry...primarily due to the limitations in the general
comments area.
- If I thought it was getting close to capacity, I would just hit
"submit" and continue after walking a short distance.
- Consequently we spent maybe triple the time in entering all the info,
esp the GPS coordinates, which collectively get pretty time consuming!
- It seems anyway we can enter in as much specific data as quickly as
possible would be optimal. Perhaps a checklist...yes or no...or fill in
the blank for some areas we can identify/quantifiy.
- For this block, how many street lights are operable (all) or if not (x
number are out) etc.
- Are streets well maintained? (yes) (no) if no, enter in specific issues
(cracked sidewalks; faded paint, etc)
- Abandoned cars?
- Homeless people present?
- Is landscaping well maintained? (overgrowth might encourage vermin,
perhaps, or block stop signs; or may be perceived to be too dangerous
to walk past at night.)
- The hope would be to get as much accurate data as possible.
- Not sure how you are using all the GPS data-seems like there should be a
way to minimize some of the numbers-to work in a broader context.
- Like all the data collected for that particular time and day is coded or
something; still keep it tight like a one 3 square block area...and the
data is already input-still fairly targeted but not so minute. The
street/cross street info is somewhat redundant with the GPS info.
- just a thought.
- Anyhow, it's a great project and I wish everyone much success!
