SJSU Solar Workforce: Surveys


Research Objectives

As part of its contract with SolarTech, SJSU researchers are studying the specific staffing and training neeeds of renewable energy firms, with a particular emphasis on entry-level college graduates with degrees in engineering and business.

The employer research portion of the Solar Workforce project is being led by Dr. Meghna Virick of the College of Business. She is being supported by a staff of research assistants that are compiling a database of eligible companies, and contacting employers to solicit their participation.

Surveys

SJSU is conducting a series of surveys of California renwable energy companies:

  1. March 2011: A survey of California integrators, installers and installer-manufacturers, with an emphasis on sales positions.
  2. July 2011: A survey of CA commercial PV installers, with an emphasis on the business strategies, hiring and hiring challenges of the solar industry.
