Microsoft Word – Drawing Toolbar Tasks
(10 points possible)
The graphics engine in Office 2007
is new and differs substantially from the one used in earlier versions. To help
you, Office 2007 instructions are in Red. Instructions
for older versions are in Blue.
Create
a document using drawing toolbar elements. Before you start, turn on the
drawing toolbar (View menu, Toolbars Submenu). Then turn off the drawing
canvas: Tools Menu, Options Submenu, General Tab. 2007 – From
the Office Button, select Word Options, Advanced, Editing Options uncheck the
box next to ”automatically create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes.”
Change the graphics layout options from “In Line with Text” to “Square.” Tools Menu,
Options Submenu, Edit Tab. 2007 – From the Office Button, select Word
Options, Advanced, Editing Options Look for
“Insert/paste pictures as.”
- Create a Banner AutoShape. 2007 – Insert Tab, Illustrations Group, Shapes
category. Type your name as text inside the banner. (Hint: Right click on the banner and
select Add text.) On a second line, type your section number. Center
the text.
- Add a fill effect to the banner. 2007 – Format Tab, Textbox Styles Group, Shapefill Category, Gradient, More Gradients. (Hint: Select the banner, not the text. Right click.
Look under format, Colors and lines tab, Fill section, select color and
pull down to find the Fill effects option)
- Change the color of the letters. 2007 – Mouse over the letters and right click. Change
the Font Colors.
- Add
a shadow effect to the banner. (Hint: This is an icon on the toolbar.) 2007 – Format Tab, Shadow Effects Category, Shadow Effects
pull-down menu, Create Shadow.
- Add
color to the shadow. Shadow Icon, Shadow Settings. 2007 – Format Tab, Shadow Effects Category, Shadow Effects
pull-down menu, Shadow Colors.
- Format
the Banner layout as square. 2007 - Format or
Page Layout Tab, Arrange Group, Text Wrapping.
- Below
the banner, press Enter several times, then
create a logo for Java Juice using a combination of at least 4 AutoShapes,
lines, rectangles or ovals. 2007 – Insert
Tab, Illustrations group, Shapes Category.
- Group the shapes so they form a single shape. 2007 – Click on a shape. Hold CTRL while clicking on the
additional shapes. Right click and select Grouping.
- Add
Clip Art or a picture of a potential Java Juice patron. Hint: Insert the clipart then format it’s Layout as
Square. Then click and drag it to the area to the right of your logo. 2007 – If your version did not come with clipart, from the Insert
Tab, Illustrations Group, Shapes Category, insert a drawing canvas.Insert a picture inside the drawing canvas.

- Add a callout AutoShape of a thought balloon
next to the patron. 2007 – Insert Tab,
Illustrations Group, Shapes Category Callouts. Add some text to the
callout.
- Group
the callout and the clip art. Format the layout as Square and
right-aligned. 2007 – Cut the grouped
object. Click on the drawing canvas and press delete. Paste the grouped
object back into the document
- Move
to the bottom of the page and insert a page break. (Hint: Deselect the clip art with Control + Space. Enter.) 2007 – Insert Tab, Pages Group, Page Break.
- Press Enter twice to insert some blank lines.
- Insert
an organization chart for your company. 2007 – Insert Tab, Illustrations Group, Smart ART Category,
Hierarchy. Select one of the hierarchies. Right click on and delete any
unnecessary boxes.
List yourself as the CEO. List three classmates as officers. (Note: If your version of Word [Pre- 2003] doesn’t have an “Insert Diagram or Org Chart” icon on
the drawing toolbar, create an Org Chart using drawing toolbar shapes, and
use a one-color gradient to fill in the backgrounds. Skip #12)
- Change
the Layout of the chart to “Beveled
Gradient” (Hint: Use the AutoFormat icon on the Organization Chart
Toolbar.) 2007 – Design Tab, Smart Art Styles Group,
Choose the first icon in the third row, “3D Polished”. Next, from the
Design Tab, Smart Art Styles Group, Change Colors, choose a colorful style
from row 2.
- Below the organization chart, (press Ctrl and
End to get below the org chart) using Word Art, enter the phrase “Key
Market Segments”. Press Enter a few times to move the Word Art down the
page. From the Word Art toolbar, 2007 – Format Tab, Text or Word Art Styles Group
change the shape of the Word Art, change the spacing of the characters,
and change the format - use a fill effect.
- Below
the Word Art, insert a Venn diagram. 2007 – Insert Tab, Illustrations Group, Smart Art Category,
Relationship, Look in row 7. Add an extra circle to the diagram. 2007 – Right click on the diagram. Shape After. In the
box that asks for the diagram text, insert blank spaces. Click and drag to make the diagram smaller so it
fits on the same page as the Word Art. To drag it you have to minimize it
by clicking the dots in the corners, then you can
drag it to the other page. (Note: If your version of Word [Pre 2003]
doesn’t have an “Insert Diagram or Org Chart” icon on the drawing toolbar,
create the Venn diagram using drawing toolbar shapes, and use a one-color
gradient to fill in the backgrounds.)
- Do NOT enter any descriptive text directly
into the Venn diagram. Add a different color to each circle. 2007 – Format Tab, Shape Styles Group, Shape fill
Category.
- Add four text boxes, above, left of, right of,
and below the Venn diagram. 2007 – Insert Tab,
Text Group. Hint: you can create one text box, click on it, and
press CTRL +D to create duplicates.
- Enter the name of a market segment in each
text box: Students, Retirees, Office Workers, Couples. (Hint: You may have to expand the text
boxes.)
- Add colors to the text boxes to match the
colors in the Venn diagram.
- Add
shadow style 17 to the textboxes. 2007 - Format
Tab, Shadow Effects. Shadow Effects, Use Drop Shadow 1.
- Add Shadow
Colors. Shadow Icon, Shadow Settings. 2007 – Format Tab, Shadow Effects Category, Shadow
Effects pull-down menu, Shadow Colors.
Save the file. Print
out a hardcopy of the assignment to hand in.
