His precise method in explaining the fundamentals and utilizing them in a business perspective.

3. What should the instructor know, either about his teaching style or about your or other student’s experiences, in order to teach the course more effectively?

I actually like the way Professor Splane teaches. Very structured.

Nothing. It is good already.

To go over things more slow but I feel things are being taught faster because we only have 5 weeks.

Go a little slower during presentations.

N/A. Good teacher.

Much needed applications were great to learn.

Try to make materials more interesting class.

He’s doing great!

It was quiet and ran at a steady pace; everyday was like the class before.

The instructor should know that he is very organized with his presentations, thus his technique is very effective.

Sometimes a little boring but it’s to make up for students with no knowledge of material so it’s ok.

Keep up the good work.

I think he did a good job teaching this course.

Hmm, nothing.  Think his teaching style is very effective.

I think he taught the course very effectively.

I think he’s a great teacher.

He’s a good teacher, no problems!

Very good style.

Class was boring, shouldn’t have been so monotonous.

He does a terrific job at his work.

Nothing. I thought he did a great job… Best professor yet!

Speak a little louder, because the classroom is big.

Have to talk louder.

Turn off lights when using projector screen to increase visibility.

Go a little slower in demonstrating the technique.

The teacher goes through hands on exercises too swiftly, but is sometimes willing to go back over it.

The instructor should slow down because he was teaching the software at a rapid rate.

He can’t teach it any better without bringing us food or money. (I laughed when I read this.- Mike)

Students are distracted easily so try to make class interesting.

He should make sure students are following him.

He has a good teaching style and his speech is very valuable.

Very effective.

He should go a little slow when it comes to teaching complex tools such as those of Excel and Graphing.

He should go a little bit slower in explaining which button to click so students can catch up.

Slow down at times cuz some students are having a hard time seeing the screen

Very good overall teacher. Keep up the good work.

Very good method, just keep it up.

Don’t change it.

Continue doing as he does. He’s great!

4. What 2 or 3 changes are most critical to improve the overall value of the course?

I didn’t think I would actually learn anything new in this class, but it was a pleasant surprise that I did. I like it the way it is.

None from this teacher.

Nothing really. I learned what I needed to.

Longer course with more focus on different programs.

It could be a little longer so we can learn more about Excel.

Make it a little longer.

Make the class longer, not only about a month long. Make it like 2 months long.

It can be a little bit longer. Spend a little more time on PowerPoint maybe.

Perhaps add an advanced course (a supplement to 91-L for those who want to learn more.)

Teach more about the advance applications of using the computer programs.

More challenge exams. More advanced MS Office techniques.

Perhaps better time management in constructing the course curriculum.

Longer courses.

None. Everything is taught in relevance to everyday life.

This course is good the way it is under the circumstances of what needs to be learned.

More flexibility in grading. Too many points concentrated on too few projects allowing no margin for error.

More hands on activities. Teach more variety of topics.

Clarify exactly what is required on the homework.

Lesser HW but more in-class exercises. That way, students will be able to have hands-on training.

Speak louder and involve the entire class.

Speak up when talking. Those in the back can’t hear you as well.

Make class a little more interesting.

Slow down and not talk while using the computer. Example: Give instruction THEN perform the described task on the computer.

More exciting homework.

The projector is very blurry and hard to read.

Students should be encouraged to email homework. Class felt boring.

Nothing. I love this class.

Thanks for all the great ideas! – Mike
