NON-ACADEMIC EMPLOYMENT:
Corporate Trainer Silicon

Microsoft Word program.
Consultant EDS
– Lansing Michigan 2005
Provided confidential advice and guidance to a company-wide cost
analysis initiative involving advanced techniques in Excel spreadsheets.
Controller Quality Suites – Silicon Valley 1993-2002
Oversaw
all accounting and payroll functions, established new accounting systems,
prepared budgets, and enforced fiscal controls. Installed new operations
software system and new payroll system. Served as key member of a strong
management team for an award-winning hotel. Awards included Quality Inns “Hotel of the Year” in 1995.
Controller Radisson -
My most challenging assignment, I had to repair and rebuild an entire
accounting system. When I arrived, the hotel was suffering from severe cash
flow problems. Cutting waste and adding controls on expenses stopped the money
drain; profitability was quickly restored. Restructuring sales incentives
worked well, increasing revenues by 50% annually. Installing new systems reduced
the administrative costs of three unions and four health plans. Setting up a
POS system in the restaurant reduced order-processing time and improved sales
volume by 30%. Tightening of inventory controls to cut waste improved
profitability by 10%. Establishing new
internal control systems eliminated the substantial fees paid to outside
accountants for year-end work.
Controller Biltmore Hotel – Santa Clara 1991-1992
Highlights included hiring and training a completely new Accounting staff. Hotel was sold and I managed the transitional accounting procedures. Trained newly promoted F&B director and chef in pricing and control procedures.
Controller Sheraton Hotel -
Highlights included suggesting a new marketing approach that generated modest revenue gains, working on the team that negotiated union contracts, computerizing inventory control systems in both the Purchasing and the Food & Beverage departments.
