Joe Giglierano, Ph.D.



Dr. Giglierano is Professor of Marketing at San Jose State University. Joe received his Ph.D. in Business Administration from Ohio State University in 1987. While he majored in marketing, his minor field was Business Strategy and Entrepreneurship, under the tutelage of the late Al Shapiro, a pioneer in the academic discipline of Entrepreneurship. His principal area of interest remains the convergence of marketing and entrepreneurship, particularly in startup technical companies.

Joe has taught at San Jose State University (SJSU) in the marketing field since 1986. He has taught in the corporate MBA program at Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Apple Computer, Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., and National Semiconductor, Inc. He has published in the Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Marketing, and Industrial Marketing Management, among others. His principal areas of research are marketing and entrepreneurship, new product strategies, online marketing and electronic commerce. He has been a regular participant in the AMA/UIC annual symposium on research at the marketing/entrepreneurship interface, has coordinated the 1996 symposium, and served as chair of the AMA`s entrepreneurship special interest group.

Over the past two years, Joe has served on the board of advisors for the San Jose Software Business Cluster, which is a successful non-profit business incubator. Joe has served as a director for three startup companies and continues to advise and consult for a number of startup technical companies.
