College of Business Certificate in Entrepreneurship

The inter-disciplinary Certificate in Entrepreneurship (EC) requires students to take the following four courses:

Fall Semester Courses

  • Bus 181 Introduction to Entrepreneurship
  • Bus 131D Marketing for New Ventures

Spring Semester Courses:

  • Bus 173C Small Business Finance
  • Bus 182 Business Plans for New Ventures

Students may take the above courses as general upper division electives or as electives toward their concentration if approved by their department.

*Students in the Management concentration may take BUS 181 and BUS 182 as electives towards their concentration.

All four courses are essential to provide a basic foundation in Entrepreneurship and thus required for the Entrepreneurship certificate.

However, to allow students to earn a certificate in the first year and still graduate on time, students graduating on or before August 2006 may petition to waive the requirement for one of the four courses. To be granted a waiver, the following criteria must be satisfied:

  • They can demonstrate previous relevant work experience, e.g., in having started a new venture of their own or experience in preparing financial statements or marketing plans.
  • They participate in the Business Plan Competition in the 2006 Spring semester, regardless of whether or not they take Bus182 (for which it is a required part of their coursework).
