Managing the Context and Relationships

General Guidelines

• Pay attention to what resources the committee needs and how to get them
• Spend some time developing good working relationships with other constituencies
• Be sure to manage the reporting relationships with the department, the college, the senate, other committees, and other units on campus as needed.

Securing Resources

• What resources does the committee need to accomplish its tasks such as:
  • Make decisions
  • Take actions
  • Start programs
  • Gather data

• Who should provide them?

Managing the Committee's Relationships with Other Constituencies

• Who else needs to know?

• Does the committee need to coordinate with other committees or units on campus? If so, when and how?

• Does approval need to be secured for activities or decisions? If so, from whom and when?

Reporting Relationships

• What reports need to go to whom?

• What reports need to go to other units on campus?

• Do members have any responsibilities for communicating committee decisions or actions to their home colleges or departments?
