Anu Vuorikoski, MBA
Prior to teaching Anu had over twenty years of experience, working generally
with, for or at the "C-suite" level, in finance, logistics,
strategic planning and business development, including M&A. Her corporate
employers included Vision Capital (CFO), Metorex International (CFO), Raychem
Corporation (various) etc.
Earlier in her career she also worked for three major consulting firms: Touche Ross & Co, McKinsey & Co, and Bain & Company. While she took 7 years off independent consulting to serve "as a taxi", she has advised many start-ups and small to medium size companies on process improvement, business plans, valuation, board package design, strategic planning etc. Starting 2010 she has taken on some advisory roles again. In 2011 she joined the Alliance of CEOs as a Group Director.
She has been teaching
Finance at SJSU since 1998. She has taught Business 173B, 173A, 177 and 170
as well as MBA 270 and 274. In the past she was active on
COB committees, and, in AY 2009-11 she volunteered for the Neat Ideas Fair
as well as for Silicon Valley Business Plan Competition judging. During AY
2011-2012
she served as Associate Director for Silicon Valley Center for
Entrepreneurship working on the expanded Silicon Valley Innovation Challenge
(former NIF) and the Silicon Valley Business Plan Competition.
Prior to teaching at SJSU she taught in corporate
training programs for her employers and certification exam preparation courses
for APICS. Her first exposure to teaching was as TA for Applied Statistics
while in College.
Anu received her MBA from Harvard Business School and her BA from Williams
College. During her corporate career she also earned various professional
certifications. She is a firm advocate for certification.
She lives in the Sierra foothills with her family and is active in the community, often serving in volunteer positions, such as her 3 year stint as Treasurer of PlacerArts. She also plays lots of USTA 3.5 singles flex tennis.
In Fall 2012, Anu will be teaching Bus 173B, Case Problems in Finance and Bus 177, International Finance, featuring use of simulation games and guiding software to make learning more fun and easier.
She brings to her classes a deep understanding of global business and finance and real world applications of the theory. She loves teaching and wants her students to transition successfully to real world finance jobs after graduation. As a result her classes employ the tools used by employers. Past students and other visitors may come to class.
