Text:  The text for this course is a special package in the bookstore.  It contains Using MIS 3rd Edition by Kroenke and MyITlab 2010. ISBN:  1256406414  Cost is about $100, cheaper than buying online.

 

 

Access Labs:  Four in-class labs, 5 labs to be completed using MyITlab, here is how to register.  A few weeks into the semester you will get an email to your address in MYSJSU that will allow you to download a free copy of Access on about the second week of class.  Check your junk mail.

 

 

Access Project:  This individual involves creating a working access database, presenting a short 5 minutes demonstration to the class, participating with the in-class evaluation of presentations, and submitting database documentation.

 

Internet Project:  Individual assignments to update the class support site and to develop a new page on the class support site.

Course Description and Prerequisites:  This course is designed to provide you with an introduction to information systems and technology infrastructure including terms, concepts, capabilities, and impacts on business organizations.  Prerequisites are the successful completion of Business 91L and Business 100W or equivalent.

Student learning objectives for the course:

 

·        Describe the methods used establishing an IT strategy and the common methods used in developing and implementing business applications

·        Evaluate an industry’s competitive environment and a  high level processes as a participant in that industry 

·        Identify the common functional, cross functional systems, and enabling technologies used across an enterprise 

·        Identify the four components of an IT infrastructure

·        Identify the business models, technology components, and impact of ecommerce on business 

·        Identify the existing and emerging technologies and techniques used in organizational decision support and process automation

·        Identify the technologies and techniques used to secure information systems 

·        Identify special issues in the implementation and use of information systems
