Intensive Japanese Programs

General Programs

A number of intensive Japanese language programs have been offered in recent years. Except as noted, these are summer programs. Please check with the university for availability.

• Indiana University at its East Asian Summer Language Institute
• Middlebury College (Vermont): 9 week summer program
• Monterrey Institute of International Studies has its Summer Intensive Language Program
• Inter-University Center (Yokohama): September-June
• University of Michigan : 10-week summer program

Technical Japanese

Some specialized summer programs have been offered in technical Japanese for those with prior experience. As with the general programs, please check with the university for availability.

• New Mexico Japan Center
• Stanford University
• University of Michigan

Also, the University of Washington offers two-year degrees in technical Japanese.

Internet Resources

The main Usenet newsgroup for Japanese language issues is sci.lang.japan. There is both an official FAQ (list of Frequently Asked Questions) and a fairly complete alternate FAQ.
