Business 187 - Global Dimensions of Business

MISPRINTS IN STUDY GUIDE: Several chapter numbers were incorrect in the version of the study guide to material studied after the midterm that was distributed in class. A corrected study guide to material studied after the midterm is available here. Note that all material in the original study guides is correct EXCEPT the chapter numbers and the page numbers of the material on the political economy of foreign direct investment.

Optional Self-evaluation of Class Participation was due on the LAST DAY OF CLASS. It will NOT be accepted on the final exam day, because grading for class participation will have been COMPLETED by that time.

The textbook for Prof. Wood's fall sections of Business 187 is Charles W. Hill, Global Business Today, Sixth Edition, ISBN 978-0-07-338139-8.

Note this is a different (and slightly cheaper) text than I used last year.

The packet is available from Maple Press, 481 E. San Carlos St.

Here is the Fall 2009 syllabus. This version, 1.1, includes corrections to a chapter and a page number for Sessions 10 and 11.

OPTIONAL Assignment for end of term: Self-Evaluation of Class Participation

Basic Geography I will assume you know the locations of the places in this handout. Let me know if you have trouble looking any of them up.

Note:  I will attempt to post slides for each class by 4:00 p.m. the day they are presented in class.  However, I will often make changes after the slides are posted.  Therefore, the slides on line may not correspond exactly to slides used in class.  Studying the slides is not a substitute for reading the chapter.  The chapter, the slides, the lecture, and your careful notes on the lecture together will give you enough understanding of the material to prepare you to understand international assignments in business and to do well on the tests

Slides are in Microsoft PowerPoint format.  To view them, you need either Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer.  PowerPoint Viewer is a FREE  program available from Microsoft.  Go to http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/ and search for "PowerPoint Viewer."    Sorry, PowerPoint Viewer is not available for Macintosh or Linux. However, OS X Leopard may provide previews of PowerPoint files that give similar functionality.
